Renowned Ghanaian filmmaker, Socrate Safo, has pointed out why Ghana’s movie industry is not thriving.

In a recent interview, Socrate, also the chairman of the Ghana Classification Board, said ignorance and the lack of education had harmed the Ghanaian movie industry.

He explained that many of the people who entered the movie industry had only passion without receiving a proper orientation.

Due to the unavailability of structured guidance and education, Socrate Safo averred it has affected the industry.

He stressed that since talents ventured into the movie industry without any orientation, they did not know the realities of the industry.

“It’s not growing as it’s supposed to be; it’s still facing challenges. From what I have seen, it started with ignorance. We did a whole lot of things out of ignorance, and it gave us challenges. It brought us on our knees.

“We didn’t understand the industry; most of us came in without the proper orientation. We didn’t receive the orientation about the industry; we entered out of passion.

“You had the talent, but nobody sat you down to give you that orientation. ‘We do this because of ABCD; we don’t do this because of ABCD’ – you didn’t get that. Nobody ever did,” Socrate Safo stated in an interview on 3FM.

Over the years, many people have expressed what caused the almost collapse of the Ghanaian movie industry.
